A weekday family table. A casual gathering on a warm afternoon. The blouse that goes over white jeans for an unannounced hanbok day.
Ondamwol translates as warm month, the moment in the Korean year when the air settles and the heavy outerwear comes off. The jeogori has always carried the goreum, the ribbon that ties the front and stands in for any button. The closure is structural and ornamental at once. It is the part of the piece that says hanbok from across a courtyard.
This blouse keeps the goreum and trades the matched tie for a contrasting ribbon. The Seoul workshop hand-sews the ribbon and lines the bust panel for a clean drape. The body runs fuller than a traditional jeogori so the wearer can layer over a t-shirt or wear the blouse alone.
Worn at a Sunday lunch in June. The blouse sits over white denim. The ribbon catches at the breeze on the way to the table. A friend who has never owned a hanbok asks if the closure is supposed to come undone. The answer is the morning the blouse is for.
Hand-finished in Seoul. Inspected and fitted in San Mateo.
