Reference TKIM-D-021 · 3 to 4 week production

$245 to $355 · quoted in consultation

A skirt-on-bodice dress with contrasting color-block panels at the shoulder. The waist drops from a natural placement, the chima falls long with soft pleats from a mid-weight twill.

The Sinae Dress

Stream, in cloth.

Fabric

Mid-weight twill blend. Color-block panels sewn in, not appliqué. Hidden zip at the side.

Occasion

An engagement dinner. The first family meeting between two households. The hour when the dress needs to do the work.

The story

Sinae translates as stream, the small running water that finds its way between fields and houses. The Korean wardrobe carries the metaphor into cloth often: a chima that pleats like water, a goreum that ties like a current. The dress as a unified silhouette is a contemporary answer, building the chima onto the bodice in a single garment.

This piece sets contrasting color blocks at the shoulder and runs the rest of the dress quiet. The panels are sewn in at the Seoul workshop rather than applied on top, so the seams sit clean. A mid-weight twill holds the body without bunching. The waist drops a measure from the natural placement to let the chima carry its line.

Worn at an engagement dinner in a private room. The two families meet for the first time. The bride-to-be sits between her mother and her future mother-in-law. The shoulder panel catches the candle light. The dress does the work the conversation does not have to. The night ends with both mothers asking where it came from.

Hand-finished in Seoul. Inspected and fitted in San Mateo.
