Reference TKIM-D-023 · 3 to 4 week production

$145 to $225 · quoted in consultation

A structural underskirt built to live beneath a cheollik or chima. A petticoat shape with a smooth waistband and a stiffened body, giving the outer piece its fullness. Offered in two lengths to match the outer.

The Volume Underskirt (Long or Mini)

The layer underneath.

Fabric

Stiffened cotton blend with a soft tulle finish on the interior. Hidden side zip.

Occasion

Worn beneath any cheollik in the wardrobe. The piece you only see if you know hanbok construction. The reason the photograph reads as a photograph.

The story

Korean dress has always treated underlayers as architecture. The chima is not a single skirt. The fullness that gives the hanbok silhouette comes from a layered build, the outer carrying the color and the inner carrying the shape. The petticoat in Western tailoring solves the same problem in a different room.

This piece is the structural layer for our cheollik and chima pieces. A stiffened cotton blend body with a soft tulle finish on the interior, so the fabric does not scratch the skin. The waistband sits smooth. A hidden side zip closes the piece. The Seoul workshop matches the length to the long or mini chima in our wardrobe.

Worn under the cheollik on the wedding morning. The bride steps from the dressing room and the chima lifts at the hem. A grandmother who has watched hanbok all her life nods at the silhouette. The underskirt does not appear in a single frame, and the photograph could not exist without it.

Hand-finished in Seoul. Inspected and fitted in San Mateo.
