A long chima that prints a small-scale floral on a midnight base. From across the room the pattern reads as texture, up close the flowers resolve. Built on a printed crepe with a soft slip beneath.

Texture from across the room. Floral up close.

An evening event in a wine bar. A holiday dinner in December where the room runs on candles. The winter gallery opening that needs a chima with weight. The piece that holds candlelight at the pleat and earns a second look from across the room.
Saebyeoldal translates as the dawn moon, the moon that hangs in the sky when the night is ending but the day has not arrived. The midnight base carries the same color the sky carries an hour before sunrise. The florals are the points of light in that field, small and scattered, the wildflowers that show up in the field at dawn.
This chima prints those florals on a printed crepe of mid-weight. From twenty feet the pattern reads as texture, a deep field with a soft scatter. Up close the flowers find themselves. A soft slip lives beneath the printed body. The Seoul workshop hand-tacks the hem so the weight of the crepe does not pull at the bottom.
Worn at a December dinner with friends. The room runs on candle light. The chima holds the flame at the pleat. A friend asks halfway through the main course whether the print is florals or texture. The answer depends on where the asker is standing. The conversation about it lasts until dessert.
