Saturday errands. A casual family lunch. The piece you wear when you want the Korean in the day without committing to a full set.
Darae is the Korean name for a wild kiwi vine, a small everyday plant that grows on the hillsides outside Seoul. The metaphor in the name is small daily presence. The blouse takes the V-front of the jeogori and rebuilds the body around the weekday, the way a daily plant rebuilds itself in a backyard.
The cut keeps the jeogori opening at the chest. The shoulder runs slightly stretchy through a cotton-poly blend so the wearer can move. A mother-of-pearl button closes the goreum. The Seoul workshop runs no interfacing so the body reads soft. The piece can layer over a t-shirt in the morning and finish a slip skirt in the afternoon.
Worn at a Saturday market and again at a casual family lunch the next day. The blouse moves through both rooms without translation. A friend asks where the top came from. The wearer says hanbok and the friend looks again and finds the V. The morning continues on jeans and coffee.
