Garden lunches in late spring. Outdoor family gatherings on a lawn. The piece for the meadow walk after the meal, where the chima reads against the grass.
Wildflowers in Korean visual culture, deulkkot, carry a softer register than the formal court flowers. Deulkkot are the flowers that grow without planting, the flowers of folk songs and rural memory rather than royal symbolism. A chima with wildflowers reads as the casual end of the floral tradition.
The Deulkkot scatters the print across the chima without a grid, so the eye reads the flowers as natural growth rather than designed pattern. The cotton blend takes the print exact, the wrap closure ties at the hip, the hidden tie keeps the waistband flat. The hem clears the grass at an outdoor lunch.
Worn to the family lunch held on the lawn behind the cousin's house. After the meal the wearer walks down to the edge of the yard where the grass runs to wildflowers. The photograph the niece takes from the deck catches the chima against the field, the print on the cloth reading the same flowers as the ones underfoot. That is the read.
