Special Days

Special-day hanbok is the cloth a family pulls out for the days they will remember. Wedding, dol (first birthday), Chuseok, Seollal, the photographs that go on the wall.

These pieces are the closest to traditional construction. The chima is full, the jeogori sits high under the bust, and the goreum (ribbon) is generous. Silks are the foundation; hand embroidery, gilt patterns, and dyed gradients distinguish one piece from another.

Contemporary special-day hanbok exists too. Younger Seoul ateliers have softened the palette and let the chima fall a little less full; we carry both ends of the spectrum so you can match the day, not just the tradition.

Styling notes

How to wear it.

Ceremonial hanbok asks for fewer accessories, not more. A single norigae at the waist. A jokduri or hwagwan for brides. Hair pulled into a low bun, often with a binyeo (long pin).

Color follows occasion. Crimson for weddings, gold and jade for milestone birthdays, autumn ambers for Chuseok, fresh pastels for Seollal. We will guide you through the right palette during your inquiry.

For family events, consider color-coordinating across generations. Matching does not mean identical, a unifying color story across three or four pieces reads beautifully on camera.

Sizing & fit

Eric works with you on sizing.

Hanbok is meant to be fitted to the person wearing it. Eric works with each customer personally on measurements, so the piece arrives ready to wear. New to measuring yourself? Use the sizing guide or book a 15-minute video call.

Care

Keeping it well.

Silk hanbok should be dry cleaned only, and only when needed. Most pieces will not need cleaning between wears if you spot-check and air them after.

Store flat in acid-free tissue or muslin, in a cool dark place. Never use plastic. Refold the piece along different creases each year to prevent permanent fold marks.

If you plan to hand the piece down, take photographs at the time of purchase, we can include the maker’s notes for the next generation.
