The Crystal Wire Flower Brooch

Wire and crystal.

Fabric

Fine wire set with crystals. Hand-finished metal back. Steel pin-clasp.

Occasion

A daytime wedding outdoors where the coat stays on through the ceremony. The lapel pin that holds a closure together when the air is cool and the brooch is the only ornament at the chest.

The story

Wirework jewelry has lived in Korean ornament for generations, from the silver kkwaegoji that held a braid in place to the small wire flowers that arrived on a jeogori for a wedding. The form lets metal hold a line that cast or stamped pieces cannot. A wired flower carries the petal as a drawing rather than as a shape.

Fine wire shaped into petals around a central form, with crystal accents set at each petal edge. The back is hand-finished, the steel pin fastens cleanly. The brooch reads delicate from a distance and resolves into precise work up close. Sized to land at a collar or a lapel without crowding the line beneath.

Worn to the daytime outdoor wedding where the coat stays on through the ceremony and the lapel pin is the only ornament. The brooch holds the coat closure together and registers as deliberate without volume. A spring portrait where the photographer asks for one quiet point of interest at the chest.

Hand-finished in Seoul. Inspected and fitted in San Mateo.
