Dol photographs. Family portraits where the parents want a traditional read. The first hanbok a daughter wears that gets remembered, the one the mother saves in the closet for years after.
The story
The girl's hanbok at dol is the oldest form in the Korean children's wardrobe. The doljanchi, the first-birthday celebration, marks a child who survived the first year. The hanbok was the visible marker of that passage, and the form has barely shifted in a century. The Bomul belongs to that lineage without modernizing it.
The printed bodice carries the traditional motif, the chima drops full beneath it, the goreum ties at the front. The cotton blend was chosen for a child's skin, soft against the chest and the back. There are no fasteners that pinch, no hooks at the spine, no zips that catch the hair. The Seoul atelier finishes the hem by hand.
Worn by the daughter, dressed by the mother who learned how to tie the goreum from her own mother. The dol table is set, the family is in the front room, the photographer is waiting. The mother straightens the goreum bow one more time and the grandmother across the room nods. The photograph holds the day that will be remembered for a generation.
