Cotton candy. In hanbok.
Lightweight cotton blend in pastel print, lined bodice.
Spring birthdays held outdoors. Cherry-blossom-season portraits taken under the trees. The bright moment a parent doesn't want to fade, the photograph the parent prints for the album that year and frames in the hallway.
The pastel hanbok is a modern children's atelier reading. The Joseon palette ran toward saturated colors for ceremony and natural tones for everyday. Cotton-candy pastels belong to the contemporary children's wardrobe, an answer to the way a young daughter sees color. The Somsatang holds that reading without losing the jeogori shape.
The print runs pink and pastel across both bodice and chima, with a small repeating motif that reads as texture at distance. The traditional jeogori shape holds the form steady. The cotton blend is light, the bodice is lined for structure, the goreum ties at the front for the gentle closure a child can sit through.
Worn by the daughter at the spring birthday party held under the cherry blossoms. The mother ties the goreum at home. The father carries the daughter from the car so the chima stays clean across the parking lot. The grandmother takes the photograph at the table, the cherry blossoms overhead, the cotton-candy palette catching the light. The print goes in the album.
