The story
Malgeum is the Korean word for clear or bright, the morning when the air after a rain catches every shape in flat exact light. The word sits in weather forecasts and in poetry. A cheollik built around it has to hold the same register without straining for it.
The ivory base is warmed against pure white. Tonal banding at the hem reads at distance as a single field of color and at close range as a deliberate line. The cotton blend is brushed for a softer hand, the bodice is lined for structure, the side zip stays hidden. The pleats hold through a long day.
Worn to the morning portrait session in the park, the family arranged on the bench, the light coming over the trees. The cheollik catches the morning the way the morning wants to be caught: clean, warm, exact. The grandmother holds her grandchild's hand and the cheollik holds the photograph.
